今日はCNNニュースの一節です。

インドの感染状況を伝えるニュースで、こんな表現がありました。

One state health minister is warning that a third wave could be on the horizon.

（感染）第3波が地平線上にあるかもしれない。

「地平線上？」直訳すると少し意味が変ですが、何となくニュアンスは想像できますよね。

辞書で on the horizon を調べると” likely to happen or exist soon”です。

「起こり得る」「起きそう」「兆候がある」などが当てはまりそうな気がします。

 ある州の保健担当大臣は、第３波の兆候が見られると警告している。（第3波がそこまで来ている）

インドは毎日数十万人の感染者が報告されているようです。

Hundreds of thousands of new cases have been reported in India.

にも関わらず、第3波の兆候とは…

A third wave could be on the horizon despite that the second wave is ongoing.

第3波が起こらないことを祈るのみです。

I hope that the third wave doesn't happen in India.
